Summary
Born at Brantford, Ontario; deafened at age 10; student at the Ontario School for the Deaf, Belleville. After 3 attempts to enlist and being rejected because of his deafness, finally succeeded in serving as an infantryman in the Canadian Army on the European front during World War I, being wounded in action. Post-war, he worked for the Canadian Customs Service, Brantford. In 1919, married Mary Ann Delvia Edwards, another Ontario School graduate.
