The Deaf American: Notes on Numbering, Dating, and Variant Titles

  • Volumes 1 (1948/49) through 16 (1963/64) had the title The Silent Worker.
  • From Volumes 17 (1964/65) through 39 (1988/89), the title changed to The Deaf American.
  • Beginning with Volume 40 (1990), it changed to an annual publication known as Deaf American Monograph, with varying subtitles and themes each year. It ceased publication with Volume 48 (1998/99).
  • Volumes 34 (1981/82) through 36 (1984) have only the year for a date, individual issues being distinguished by volume and number.
  • Volume 35, no. 1 (1982) is incorrectly marked as Volume 34, no. 1 on its cover and inside pages, although it correctly shows "Vol. 35 No. 1" on its first page. It is indexed as vol.35 no.1 (1982).
  • Volume 37, no. 2 (Spring 1987) is correctly marked on its cover, but is incorrectly marked Volume 38, no. 1 (Spring 1987) inside. It is indexed as vol.37 no.2 (Spring 1987).
  • Volume 37, no. 3 (Summer 1987) is incorrectly marked as Volume 38, no. 2 (Summer 1988) both inside and on the cover. It is indexed as vol.37 no.3 (Summer 1987).
